Are you tired of wasting money on ineffective dietary supplements?
Over the past year or more I have seen a steep increase in people seeking help with their anxiety, energy levels, mental ‘fog,’ and memory challenges.
A concerning commonality is the amount of dietary supplements many people are using. Often more than 15 different products!
Here are a few facts about clever dietary supplement marketing:
- The internet is FULL of nonsense (to say it politely) about dietary supplements. ‘Influencers’ who promise hope with loads of hype using slick marketing skills.
- VERY few of the products available have any evidence to support their claims.
- They use an old strategy to sell their products, the ‘nutrient + function’ strategy. They say ‘ [X] nutrient does [this] in the body/brain, so this product that contains [X] will do [this too].’
- Just the stress-management supplement industry is now worth over US$16 BILLION and yet, stress levels keep climbing.
- There are specific dietary supplements that ARE effective and do have a solid evidence-base but they need to be consumed in specific FORMS and AMOUNTS and at specific TIMES.
- BUT … the slick-online sellers don’t make money if you buy only a few effective quality products from qualified health professionals.
Reports from patients are often similar. For example:
‘I saw someone on YouTube speaking about these supplements and thought they’d help me feel better. I know they’re expensive but I’m really desperate to stop my brain issues from getting worse.’
Sadly, these are not isolated conversations.
Whether it’s on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. Someone selling supplements with great skill but little to no robust evidence to support their use.
- People waste money because they haven’t got the time or knowledge to separate nonsense from truth.
- When a topic is complex it’s easy to fool those who don’t have the knowledge to find the truth.
So, if you’re battling with anxiety, low energy, brain fog, or memory challenges, and are curious about whether the dietary supplements you’re using are useful (or worse, harmful) please book a call with me or your local qualified naturopath.
I’ll tell you how I work with people and how you can tackle brain (and energy) challenges with tailored support which may involve dietary or lifestyle adjustments, and perhaps a few supplements but one thing is certain: You’ll save money in the process and learn a lot about your body and how to take control of your health.
Self-prescribing and falling for the clever marketing techniques are a major problem. Not only because taking multiple supplements can lead to significant biochemical imbalances in a body that’s already struggling (or you wouldn’t be searching for answers), but most of the online and over-the-counter products are poor quality, have low bio-availability, are often synthetic but most are expensive and a waste of your money.
