Spring Cleaning

Spring is a great time to do a clean up – not only around the home but also in your body. At the mention of parasites most people react but they are perhaps much more common than you think.

I’d like to share the following analogy:

  1. The Bouncer: Think of your gut as a nightclub—if uninvited guests (parasites) crash the party, they can totally ruin the vibe! Doing a parasite cleanse can help kick out those unwanted party crashers, allowing your good gut bacteria to dance freely, improving digestion and overall wellbeing.
  2. Energy Boost: You know that person who makes you feel exhausted after you see them? Parasites are just like them! They can drain your vitality, leaving you feeling sluggish. A parasite cleanse can help you reclaim your energy and bounce back to your vibrant self!
  3. Immunity Supercharge: Your immune system is like a super-squad (think millions of mini Wonder Women & Supermen! 🦸🏻‍♀️🦸🏻‍♂️) protecting your body. Parasites can weaken your defences, leaving you vulnerable to illnesses. By clearing them out, you’re not just giving your immune system a boost; you’re giving it a whole new superhero upgrade to fight off invaders!

It is not always necessary to undertake difficult and involved parasite cleanses when infestation is mild. Here are a few foods that are very helpful at convincing these invaders to clear off:

Eat more:

  • Raw garlic
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Pomegranates
  • Beetroot – raw, grated in salads is delicious
  • Carrot – raw, grated in salads  [see the recipe below]

Consume less:

While you’re cleaning out parasites, try to steer clear of simple carbohydrates such as those found in refined foods, juices, dairy products, alcohol and all sugars (dried fruit is a common culprit), except raw honey which is beneficial in small amounts.

As parasites are most active around the full moon, it is often most beneficial to address their eradication around that time of month.

If you, or any member of your family, experience more challenging parasites, please consult a qualified naturopath who will be able to formulate a program that suits your individual needs.

Recipe

Grate 1 medium sized beetroot (peeled, tops/bottom cut off);

1 large or 2 smaller carrots;

1 Granny smith apple (skin on if organic, otherwise peeled).

Add the juice of a fresh lemon and toss.  Keeps well in the refrigerator in a sealed container for a few days and makes a highly nutritious addition to any meal.
